Department of physiotherapy was started in the premises of the Right hospitals at the time of inauguration of the Hospital on 24 th November 2004 with a motto to provide adequate and appropriate rehabilitation for the patients so as to make them functionally normal as early as possible.The department is functioning with adequate space and personnel. It is fully air conditioned. It is equipped with all modalities of treatment such as Short wave diathermy, Intermittent traction unit, Electrical stimulator, Ultrasound, Interferential therapy unit, Transcutaneous electrical stimulator and Wax therapy unit.
The physiotherapy department of our hospital is unique in that we provide hand rehabilitation under one roof, which may not be available in other private hospitals. Though hand therapy was our main focus of attention, the department also gives physiotherapy for patients with orthopedic and neurological conditions.The department is headed by Prof R.Jagatheesan, a senior consultant in physical medicine and Rehabilitation. Mr.Devanesan, physical therapist is working in the Department from the day of inception till date. Along with him are two female physiotherapists.
9 a.m. to 1.00p.m and 5.00p.m. to 9.00 p.m on all days of the week except Sundays. We work throughout the year except on few festival days. A splint work shop with all infra-structure to fabricate hand splints is also attached to the department.. A part time splint maker is available on call who make custom made splints according to needs of the patient. The splints are simple, cosmetically acceptable and cost effective. We also fabricate static splints in LTTP (Low temperature Thermo Plastic). This facility is not available in other private hospitals.
The department started internship programme in hand therapy for internees of Bachelor of Physiotherapy and Bachelor of occupational therapy since 2006.The department also provided training programme in “hand conditions” which is an elective subject for students of Master in Physiotherapy from Manipal College of Allied Health Sciences. Hand Occupational therapy section was started within the physiotherapy premises with the help of students of Bachelor of Occupational therapy S.R.M.College of Occupational therapy. Kattankolathur who came for internship programme in hand occupational therapy since 2008.
